Volunteer for Build day at Roosevelt Park!
Come swing a hammer on July 22 & 23 with The Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. They are looking for volunteers to help with a community build project to install a complete fitness center at Roosevelt Park. Each fitness center includes 12 stations (sit-ups, dips, rope climb, body curl, push ups, etc.) with instructions for proper usage.
Volunteers will help to assemble equipment, set posts and install signage. All the tools and supervision you need will be provided. They are looking for a team of 10 volunteers on Friday from 8am-1pm and 20 on Saturday from 8am-2pm. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer and lunch will be provided. If you are interested in volunteering, you can register online or by calling Heather at (616)581-7164.
The fitness centers represent the latest element of Project FIT, a childhood obesity prevention program funded by a $1 million grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Project FIT, which is run by Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, has worked since 2009 with parents, students and staff at four Grand Rapids elementary schools to encourage healthy lifestyles. These fitness centers provide the opportunity for children and families to continue working on their fitness outcomes outside of school.
