Residents Invited to Gather is Support of Children’s Future

Believe 2 Become, a neighborhood initiative designed to help children succeed in school, work and life, will host its first Community Planning Meeting in the West Zone:

4:00p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

July 14

César E. Chávez Elementary - 1205 Grandville Ave

The event will kick off with a celebratory atmosphere. Local artists and musicians, Eric Pichardo, Alberto Vigil with Akariay Band,   and Laura Armenta will be performing outside the school starting at 4:00pm. Dinner will be served at 5:00pm while Grupo Tarasco performs in the gym.

Free childcare will be available at the school and transportation will be provided upon request. Each guest who lives in the West zone (shown on the map below) will be entered in a drawing: prizes include a 42” LCD TV and other giveaways. Additionally, the first 200 families who live in the West zone will receive a $20 gift card.

Hosted by LINC community revitalization, inc. and National Community Development Institute, the meeting is the first public opportunity for West zone residents to join the Believe 2 Become initiative, which will offer programs to help close the academic achievement gap in four targeted “hope zones” in Grand Rapids. The goal of this first meeting is to provide a space for parents and neighbors to identify issues and struggles they are facing as a community that are preventing their children from succeeding in school, work and life. This meeting will kick of a planning process which will lead to one community goal and strategies to reach that goal.

This is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, neighbors and educators to join in the conversations regarding the future of our children and our community.  Bring your families to join in the celebration!
