Believe 2 Become in real time!

Posted: 03-25-2011

Many of you have seen and heard the energy and excitement surrounding the words, "We believe! We BECOME!"  The video below  gives a glimpse of the cry of our parents, neighbors and children seeking a better future for our communities. Gone are the days where we can sit idly by as our neighborhoods are continuously marginalized by social structure, government decisions, and cycles of poverty. We must take charge of this unique opportunity to make a difference in the community.

This change starts with individual decisions and actions that can be as simple as reading with your child everyday, raising your voice at city commission meetings, attending parent teacher conferences, visiting local businesses and getting to know your neighbors. Another way to support community change is to become a part of the Believe 2 Become movement! The Central Zone has had 9 large community meetings since last August and this Thursday is the final large celebration before our action teams start getting to work.

Again, we want to thank the hundreds of families that have become a part of this journey. We are counting on you to reach out to your friends and neighbors, inviting them to join us in this work. The participation we have seen so far is amazing, but we know that we are still missing people. Everyone has a role to play, have you found yours? Our children have waited long enough, now is the time to break the cycle of inaction and complacency. Now is the time to believe, to gather our collective strength and become a community devoted to one another and the success of our children!

The video below was produced by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and captures a snapshot of the Believe 2 Become movement in the Grand Rapids Central Zone.

To see this action in real time, come on out Thursday March 31, 2011 from 5:30pm - 8:45pm and find your place in this movement!
